  • Firstly, Confirm if lithium-ion battery brand is in Growatt Lithium-ion battery compatibility list.

Note:

Pylontech UP5000 is same with US2000C US3000C, all of them can communication with off grid inverter

Battery brand in our list has been tested in our lab. Some other battery manufactors has matched our inverter modbus protocol type , but they havn’t been tested in our lab. So we don’t contain them in the list.

If your battery brand is not in our list, and clients hope to have the communication with our inverter. Here attached our SPF 485/CAN modbus protocol type. You can forward it to your battery manufacturer and try to match it.

  • Battery Communication:

Pylontech Battery

  • 485 Communication

Inverter side:

Please set Li 05 on 5th option, L04 on 36th option.

Pylontech Battery Side:

please set 1000(ON OFF OFF OFF)

  • CAN Communication

Inverter Side:

Please set Li 05 on 5th option, L52 on 36th option

Battery Side:

please set 1000(ON OFF OFF OFF)

Note: Inverter side has the same CAN pin definition with battery Side.

Because 485 communication has been tested in our lab. So communicaton is more stable. Pylontech and us suggest that 485 communication can be used for first priority.

Dyness Battery

Dyness battery A48100 and A4850 , BX51100 can communicate with Off grid inverter

  • 485 Communication

Inverter Side:

Please set Li 05 on 5th option, L01 on 36th option.

Battery Side:

Battery Dip Switch: 0110(off on on off)

Hope Battery

Please note that hope battery only has CAN communication. And hope battery just can work when BMS
communicaton with inverter is normal. Or it will shut off automatically

  • CAN Communication

Please set Li 05 on 5th option, L51 on 36th option ; communication protocol type: L51 ;

For Single Hope battery:

You must use crystal plug to connect them into Link-in and Link-out port separately, or battery can’t work. Please make sure that they are connected sufficiently

For Single Hope battery in parallel:

Please make sure crystals plugs are inserted into head and tail of battery system, and connect other Link-in and LInk-out port one by one via connection wire in sequence.

CAN PINOUT

Both CAN pin Definition of inverter and battery side are the same. PIN4-CAN H PIN5 CANL

Note: Hope battery just has CAN communication, So our SPF 5000TL HVM with old communication board can’t use Hope battery. Please highlight this. If clients really want to achieve the function. The solution is to replace old com board inside inverter as newest one.

For Hope 3.3 KWH, MAX 6 PCS in parallel( But actually it can work in 8 pcs in parallel, we don’t suggest that ), MAX one group for Storage system, you can’t connect more than 1 group into same inverter.

For Hope 4.8KWH, MAX 16 PCS in parallel, MAX 2 groups fro storage system, Hub is not needed

Shoto Battery

CAN Communication ( Please note that Model: SDA10-48100, can’t be used in parallel with inverter, because in our lab., just single battery has been tested , if you want to confirm if multi batteries can work with our inverter, please contact battery manufacturor:

How to commission battery communication

Tool:

When using it, please remember to install driving firmware. You can get it from your USB-485 manufacturer

Commissioning method:

  1. Make sure all settings are correct on battery and inverter
  2. If above all settings are correct, while communication is still abnormal, you can connect USB-485 tool to your 485 connection wire in parallel, then try to receive communication data from inverter. If normal, you should receive data from inverter constantly.
  3. The method is used to detect which part is something wrong, so that you can confirm the malfunction point.

      1. In fact, pylontech US2000 batteries are stackable up to 8 units. Beyond 8 battery units, they must be placed in several groups of eight units each. the groups communicate with an RS485/CAN hub. But the inverters only communicate with a single group of batteries whereas you can have five groups. This will result in low load current for all groups in RS485 communication.

        1. It could be that the tests were performed on a single battery. With one battery or a single cell or group of batteries, communication is perfect but with several groups of batteries, communication is perfect in RS485 except that the maximum charging current is for a single group. This is what poses the problem.

          1. I guess that there are not so many Pylontech batteries in the lab. Mabybe like you said, just test several batteries.

  1. It is surely that and it is during the use that we realize certain details. This is why user feedback is important. Many users don’t have as many batteries as I do. The same problem had happened with other brands of inverters which were subsequently resolved.

        1. ONLY each group of batteries can work with off grid inverter, multi groups of pylontech batteries can’t work with off grid inverter.

    I have many DALY Bms. 14S 48V 100A bms …with ts458 and CAN on bms.

    What growatt spf 5000 es inverter settings should I use so.. DALY bms can work properly in can ..or rs458 please…I’ve have emailed growatt and various places many times with No reply yet?
    Help make this work please very soon.

    1. You can download 485 and CAN communication protocol type manual from the link and share it with your BMS supplier. We didn’t match it in lab.

  4. Hi i have a Growatt inverter SPF 5000 ES and one battery pylontech US3000C. Totally off grid (no AC in).
    What have i to set in programme 5 and 36?

    1. You can try Li 005 , L52 on 36th option,which is Can communication. firstly, this battery is not in compatibility list. Battery manufacturer may have matched the protocol type by themselves.

  5. I installed a Pylontech US3000C with Growatt SPF 5000ES inverter.
    With the settings mentioned here (Li 05 on 5th option, L52 on 36th option) and CAN communication it works fine, with AC IN or totally Off-grid.

  6. Amos, PLEASE help ! I have GROWATT ES 5000 and a custom battery.
    My inverter very often thinks that battery is 100% SOC and does not charge it , although i see on my Daly BMS that it is 47% full. I am loosing my sun.
    I setup USE2 , charge 56.4, float 53.6 V. What should i do ?
    I do not want to change my inverter … please support us.

    1. Please advise 5th option, 36th option on LCD? Is it communicating with inverter? The battery brand is not in formal compatibility list. You also can try US2 on 5th option, which is specially designed for lithium-ion battery without communication.

  7. I need your help for two SPF 5000ES in parallel and four Growatt ARK2.5L-A1 in parallel. I connect PCS input from the battery to BMS input of the Master Invertor. In 36th option I use L51, but I need help for other options.
